Paper Engineering Brief

The objective of this brief was to show paper as a diverse material and as a considered design choice, rather than an afterthought.  I decided to create a small promotional book for a paper merchant, that would be sent out to prospective clients as to show the properties of the paper inside.
For the brief I decided to focus on handmade paper and types of natural papers.  I created an identity for a fictional paper company (natural paper company) which would appear on all materials.  The project is illustration based with 3 A3 posters and an A6 booklet being produced.  I focused on the types of paper and created a humorous illustration to match, for example coffee paper, banana paper and tea paper posters all had loosely drawn illustrations on them.
The contents of the booklet (how to make your own paper) was printed onto various types of paper and again is mainly illustrative.  Throughout the project 3 typefaces were used: ‘sams handwriting’ for a handmade feel, ‘J F ringmaster’ was used for headings and ‘helvetica’ was used for large amounts of copy.  Throughout the project 15 varieties of paper were used and the final piece shows the book and 3 posters bound together by twine and the booklet hand sewn.
